अथातोऽवारणीयमध्यायं व्याख्यास्यामः ||१||

A person with erect hair, bloodshot eyes, and heart pain, who constantly breathes through the mouth, will be destroyed by fever. A person suffering from hiccups, breathlessness, excessive thirst, confusion, and restless eyes, who constantly breathes and is emaciated, will be destroyed by fever. A person with turbid eyes, who faints frequently, is extremely sleepy, and has reduced blood and muscle mass, will be destroyed by fever."
